Where Does The Name Come From?
The name ITZY is a Korean word as well as their fandom name “MIDZY”. The word ITZY means “to have” whilst MIDZY means “to trust”. This is why Lia explains in almost every interview in America that ITZY has everything you need and MIDZY trusts them.
Who Are They?
ITZY is a five-member girl group that consists of Yeji, Ryujin, Lia, Chaeryeong and Yuna. They debuted under JYP Entertainment on February 11, 2019 with the single album “IT’z Different”. The single albums title track “DALLA DALLA” currently has 325 million views on Youtube. The group has many talents but the energy they put into their performances is the one that is talked about a lot, especially since they are currently on the “Born To Be” world tour and will be performing at Fox Theatre Atlanta, Atlanta on June 18th as a part of the tour’s American part.

Facts About Yeji
Yeji is the leader of the group and is often called the “Hidden Weapon” of JYP as 2PM’s Junho has once said. She is close to AB6IX’s Daehwi as well as her fellow member, Chaeryeong. Yeji has once made a cameo in episode 8 of “Twenty Again” in 2015 which was aired on tvN. Another pre-debut activity of hers was that she appeared on the first episode of Stray Kids’ survival show in 2017. Yeji has also been a contestant in SBS’s “The Fan” in 2018 but was eliminated in episode 5. With her charming appearence and elegant beauty, she ranked 86th on TC Candler’s “100 Most Beautiful Faces” in 2019. Additionaly, she has a puppy named Hongsam.
She has a condition called “Atopy” which is the genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases. She has talked about this in a VLive on January 24,2020 as she says that she had once went through a deadly illness during her childhood. Yeji shared that when she was 8 years old, she caught a flu that could have been deadly since the medication did not improve her symptoms. So, her mom took her to a hospital in Jeonju.
She goes on by saying that with the help of her grandfather she was taken to a bigger hospital in Seoul in which she was diagnosed with atopy (skin allergy), pneumonia (an infection involving fluid in lungs) and osteomyelitis (bone infection) which is a rare but serious condition. Though there could have been surgery, Yeji ended up recovering with the help of the medication the doctors gave her and only had a minor procedure in order to remove the fluid buildup in her lungs. Even though she had to stay in the hospital for a year, she pulled through and was able to pursue her dream of becoming an idol.

Facts About Ryujin
Ryujin has starred in BTS’ Love Yourself Highlight Reel as J-Hope and Jimin’s pair as a pre-debut trainee in 2017. Another thing she had done in 2017 was that she had an acting role in the movie “The King”, where she played the role of the character Ji-Min. Ryujin appeared on Stray Kids’ survival show’s first episode alongside Yeji. Despite her busy schedule, she is friends with Dreamcatcher’s Jiu and ALICE’s Bella.
Idols have many interesting scouting stories and Ryujin’s story is definitely one of them. She has said that she was scouted when she was attending a GOT7 fanmeeting where a recruitment agent approached her. She goes on by saying that she accepted the offer because she found the agent beautiful. Now, she is under the same agency that GOT7 was under. Also, Ryujin has 2 cats, named Byullie and Dallie.
Ryujin was also a contestant on YG Entertainment’s survival show MIXNINE and ranked #1 among the 98 female participants. As a result, Yang Hyunsuk, who is the now former CEO of YG Entertainment, offered her to join YG but she decided to stay at JYP Entertainment and eventually debuted in ITZY.

Chaeyeong has an older sister named Lee Chaeyeon, a former IZ*ONE member, who is now a soloist under WM Entertainment as well as a younger sister named Lee Chaemin. Her nickname is “chocolate holic” and she is close with AB6IX’s Daehwi alongside Yeji. Her favorite actress is Han So-Hee and she has a striking life motto: “Let’s be a person who knows how to be satisfied.”.
Chaeryeong has a history of participating in survival shows as she competed in K-Pop Star 3 when she was 11. Three years later, she was a contestant on SIXTEEN, which was a survival show in order to determine the members of TWICE, when she was 14 along with her sister Lee Chaeyeon and ranked #12. She is close friends with Jeon Somi who was also a participant on SIXTEEN, fromis_9’s Jiwon and all of TWICE.

Lia’s stage name comes from her english name, which is Julia, and it has a special meaning since her aunt gave her that name. Appearence-wise, fans think that she looks like a mix of Blackpink’s Jisoo and Red Velvet’s Irene with her beauty. When it comes to her amazing vocals, she has gotten vocal training in Dream Vocal Academy.
On September 18, 2023 it was announced that Lia will be taking a temporary hiatus due to her health issues that are related to tension and anxiety. As a result, she was not able to participate in the release and the activities following of their comeback “BORN TO BE” and the Japanese EP they recently released called “Algorhythm”. However she had a solo song on the BORN TO BE album called “Blossom”.
